What is the meaning of 'you are a final year phd' when after your final year you have another year of writing up?

And i am not in my final year! It's only the second year.

I hate it when people starts to give titles but somehow i love it when i start to have new responsibilities that comes with the title. Argh why do i fred so much about such a small matter?!
